NRA Basic Courses

NRA Basic Pistol, Basic Shotgun, and Basic Rifle are the foundation for a new firearm owner/shooter.  These course teach the new shooter the proper knowledge, skills, and attitude necessary for the safe and proper handling of each type of firearm; they are the standard by which other courses around the country are measured.  The courses vary in length but all are covered in a weekend.  For a detailed description of each course and to find an upcoming date, click these links:

Due to time constraints, GAPP llc works with other instructors to offer NRA Basic Courses.  The following NRA certified and insured instructors make up the team offering these courses.

Jen Metzger - Jen is a career educator with advanced degrees in special education.  She has taught in public and private schools, been an adjunct professor at The College of New Jersey, and run a consulting firm for early childhood special education needs.  She is a member of the NRA, NJ2AS, Fort Dix, and Central Jersey Rifle and Pistol Club.  Jen has taken many NRA Basic Courses; she is certified to teach NRA Basic Pistol and is a Chief Range Safety Officer.

Tim Metzger - Tim is a career firefighter who has teaching experience at the college level and hazardous material handling.  He has taken many NRA and non-NRA firearm courses; he is certified to teach Basic Pistol, Basic Rifle, Basic Shotgun, Personal Protection in the Home, Personal Protection Outside the Home, and Reloading (both metallic cartridge and shot shell).  He is a certified armorer for DPMS, Remington R15, Bushmaster, and Glock as well as a Chief Range Safety Officer.

Grant Gallagher- Grant is a scientist by trade with a PhD in immunology. He has held senior university positions both in Scotland and here in the USA; he currently works in the biotechnology sector and as an adjunct professor in New Jersey. He has been shooting seriously and taken most of the NRA basic courses since he moved to the USA in 2001. He is certified to teach Firearm Safety in the Home, Basic Pistol, Basic Rifle, Basic Shotgun, Personal Protection in the Home, Personal Protection Outside the Home and is a Chief Range Safety Officer.
