Defensive Shotgun 1

This course teaches the proper use of a shotgun as a defensive tool, the premise being defending your home with a shotgun.  This live fire only course (no classroom... no theory) covers a wide variety of topics including shooting from cover, emergency reloads, front sight index, engaging multiple targets, proper ammunition for personal defense, accessories for your defensive shotgun, and more.  To get the most out of the courses, you should have a working knowledge of chokes, different action types, varieties of ammunition available, and your shotguns nomenclature.  All of this information can be found on the web, in books, in your owners manual, or in the NRA Basic Shotgun Course.  Emphasis in this 4 hour course is on firearm safety, the fundamentals of defensive marksmanship, and shooting from primarily a static location. We limit the round count, use redominanatly low recoil ammunition, and limit the duration of the course to avoid the "shotgun headache" novice shooters can get from the excessive recoil of a shotgun

What you will need for this class:

• safe, legal shotgun (any gauge)
  
• belt mounted ammunition carrier capable of holding 25 shells
  
• sturdy pistol belt
  
• 150 rounds of #6 to #9 bird shot
• 10 slugs
  
• weather appropriate clothing (we shoot rain or shine... or cold)
• pen and note pad
• eye and ear protection
• sling and side saddle are recommended
